Living with flatmates in a co-living apartment in this current climate with COVID-19 measures is definitely something that requires adjustments to our lives. While we are used to heading out to the office to work, dining out and all, having to stay at home all day with flatmates is a complete new experience for many of us. How can you Work From Home while having a better experience with your flatmates in a co-living condominium? Here’s a few ways you can make Work From Home a happier one. 1. Communicate Communicate Communicate It is now going to be key to communicate with your flatmates on who uses the bath first, who cooks lunch first or even which areas you might want to settle in as your “Work Desk”. Agree on a schedule together so everyone has access to areas such as the “favourite couch” or balcony equally. Make it in a way everyone can rotate the usage of common areas. No hoarding please! 2. Make your flatmates and yourself a “Perk-Me-Up” Coffee or Tea Working from Home and getting stuck all day in the house sucks. We are all experiencing it. When you feel like you need a break or feeling some pent up frustration, why don’t you make a “Perk-Me-Up” Coffee or Tea to share? Maybe a sweet and easy to make Dalgona Coffee can be your next Instagram post. Let us know if you like the taste! Not a Coffee lover? What about some chamomile tea to calm your nerves or Earl Grey for that afternoon tea? 3. Set a “Do Not Disturb” hour Just like point 1, it is critical to communicate on which times you have important conference calls or meetings. Let your flatmates know what times are “Do Not Disturb”. You won’t want your flatmate to come into your room with Dalgona coffee when you are amidst a call. Neither you want them to be watching Netflix with a high volume turned on. 4. Fun cooking At the end of the day when you end work, ordering in all the time or cooking yourself can be a bore after a while. Why don’t you set up a theme for dinner together, search for easy recipes and have some fun cooking together? It can be a Mexican night or Japanese night. Dress up for the occasion and set up the table for the theme. Turn on the right music to set the tone. You may be the next Master Chef! 5. Be considerate Lastly, nothing beats this point. Be considerate of how your flatmates feel and you will be living and working happily together. Use your airpods where possible and keep volume low. Don't do unto others what you don't want done unto you - Confucius If you are looking for a place to move to next, why don’t you consider co-living? It will be less lonely to #WFH. Stay home, stay safe!
